Balance and Proprioception Training Programs on Dynamic Balance in Patients with Knee Osteoarthritis .
The efficacy of balance and proprioception exercises in female patients with knee osteoarthritis: A randomized controlled study
Clin Rehabil. 2022 Jul 7;2692155221111929.Eighty-nine female patients were randomized to receive either Biodex balance training (n=29), classical training (n=30), or control (n=30). The primary outcome of this trial was to assess dynamic balance after 10 weeks using the Clinical Test of Sensory Interaction and Balance (mCTSIB). Additional outcomes of interest included pain scores at rest, with movement, and at night measured using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), physical function determined by the 30-second chair stand test and 40-meter fast-paced walk test, and quality of life measured by the Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS). Significantly better overall stability index scores and sway index scores with eyes open were observed in the Biodex balance group vs. the classical and control groups after 10 weeks. All other outcomes were similar between groups.
