Effect of Ultrasound-Guided Fascia Iliac Compartment Block on Serum NLRP3 and Inflammatory Factors in Patients with Femoral Intertrochanteric Fracture

Two hundred and thirty-one femoral intertrochanteric fracture patients undergoing an internal fixation procedure under general anesthesia were randomized to receive a fascia iliaca compartment blockade (n=116) or a placebo (n=115). Outcomes of interest included nucleotide-binding domain and leucine-rich repeat pyrin domain-containing 3 (NLRP3) levels and inflammatory markers, vital signs (heart rate; mean arterial pressure; SpO2), pain scores on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS), Harris Hip scores, and complications. Patients in the FICB group had significantly lower VAS pain scores, NLRP3 levels, and Interleukin-6 levels between 1 and 72 hours post-operation. Tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) levels at 1 and 6 hours, as well as C-reactive protein (CRP) levels at 1 and 24 hours post-operation, were significantly lower in the FICB group. At the time of anesthesia induction, heart rate and mean arterial pressure were significantly lower in the FICB group.
