Prospective Randomized Study on the Effectiveness of the Reduction of Extra-articular Distal Radius Fractures with Dorsal Displacement Under Hematoma Block versus Conscious Sedation

A total of 62 patients with distal radius fractures were randomized to receive surgical reduction under conscious sedation or hematoma block. Outcomes of interest included radial inclination, radial height, ulnar variance, palmar tilt, and Mayo wrist scores. Outcomes were assessed post-reduction, as well as 7-10 days, 4-5 weeks and 12-weeks post-operation. The results revealed that no statistically significant differences were observed between the conscious sedation and hematoma block groups in all outcomes, at all time-points.
