Arthroscopic Versus Open Lateral Release for the Treatment of Lateral Epicondylitis: A Prospective Randomized Controlled Trial

OE Journal. 2019;7(2):16 Arthroscopy. 2018 Dec;34(12):3177-3184. doi: 10.1016/j.arthro.2018.07.00875 patients with lateral epicondylitis and scheduled for release of the extensor carpi radialis brevis (ECRB) origin were randomized to either arthroscopic or open surgery. Patients were assessed over the first 12 months after surgery for the primary outcome of disability on the Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand score, and secondary outcomes of pain, function on the Patient Rated Tennis Elbow Evaluation (PRTEE), and grip strength. Results demonstrated no significant differences between groups in any of the outcome measures at 3 months, 6 months, or 12 months.
