Trapped at Home: The Rise in Domestic Violence During COVID-19
Rising rates of intimate partner violence have become a major concern during COVID-19, as lockdowns heighten isolation, financial strain, and barriers to support. Global reports show marked increases in IPV, echoing patterns seen in past epidemics. Orthopaedic clinics play a critical role, with prior multinational data showing notable prevalence among fracture-clinic patients and very few having ever been asked about abuse. Evidence highlights the need for routine screening, clear referral pathways, and use of virtual touchpoints to identify and support victims. Strengthened communication, trained staff, and accessible local resources are central to improving safety during periods of prolonged isolation.
