Red Meat - To eat or not to eat

A new guideline on red and processed meat sparked wide debate after recommending that adults continue their usual consumption because evidence supporting harm reduction is weak and uncertain. The panel relied on multiple systematic reviews, noting only very small absolute risk reductions for major outcomes and strong personal attachment to meat across populations. Environmental and animal-welfare considerations were excluded. Reaction from experts has been sharply divided, with some praising the guideline’s rigorous methodology and others warning it may confuse the public or overlook meaningful long-term risks.
