HEALTH Trial: Insights from the Investigators

The HEALTH trial brought together an international team to address a long-standing question in femoral neck fracture care: whether total hip arthroplasty (THA) offers meaningful advantages over hemiarthroplasty. Investigators emphasized the scale, methodological rigor, and global collaboration behind the study. The results showed no meaningful difference in secondary procedures at two years, only modest functional gains with THA, and a higher rate of serious adverse events and dislocations. Contributors noted that the findings challenge previous assumptions, support hemiarthroplasty for most displaced fractures in independently ambulatory adults, and may shift practice toward a more balanced, evidence-driven approach.
