Knee and hip joint arthroplasty, also known as knee and hip replacement, are among the most commonly performed surgical procedures for patients with advanced arthritis (Learmonth et al., 2007; Pollock et al., 2016; Pozzi et al., 2013). A considerable number of patients may suffer moderate to severe pain after knee and hip joint replacement. For instance, it was reported that around 30% and 60% of patients felt moderate and severe postoperative pain, respectively (Bonica et al., 1990). Postoperative pain management in patients who have undergone knee or hip joint arthroplasty plays a critical role in patient postoperative recovery.
