Use of Tapentadol for Postoperative Pain Management in Patients after Knee/Hip Arthroplasty: A Scoping Review

Knee and hip joint arthroplasty, also known as knee and hip replacement, are among the most commonly performed surgical procedures for patients with advanced arthritis (Learmonth et al., 2007; Pollock et al., 2016; Pozzi et al., 2013).
A considerable number of patients may suffer moderate to severe pain after knee and hip joint replacement. For instance, it was reported that around 30% and 60% of patients felt moderate and severe postoperative pain, respectively (Bonica et al., 1990).
Postoperative pain management in patients who have undergone knee or hip joint arthroplasty plays a critical role in patient postoperative recovery.
