Synopsis

217 patients with unstable trochanteric or subtrochanteric fractures were randomized to receive internal fixation with either a standard Gamma nail or a Medoff sliding plate. The results of the study suggest that standard Gamma nails result in a reduced incidence of severe general complications, a trend towards a lower incidence of wound infections and in a need for revision surgery.
