SICOT2018: Lower blood loss observed with cemented versus uncemented total knee arthroplasty .
BLOOD LOSS IN TOTAL KNEE ARTHROPLASTY: A RCT COMPARING CEMENTED AND UNCEMENTED TECHNIQUES
Patients scheduled for total knee arthroplasty were randomized to either cemented or uncemented fixation, The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of fixation type on blood loss in total knee arthroplasty. Patients were assessed for estimated total blood loss using Gross' formula, postoperative blood loss volume to intraarticular drainage, incidence of transfusion, and length of hospital stay. Results demonstrated significantly lower total blood loss and postoperative blood loss in the cemented versus uncemented group, though no significant difference was observed in transfusion rate, as no patient from either group required a transfusion.
