A 30-Year Follow Up of a Prospective, Randomized Multicenter Study of Three Operative Techniques for the Treatment of Acute Ruptures of the Anterior Cruciate Ligament
150 patients were randomized to receive a bone patellar tendon bone (BPTB) graft, an acute primary repair, or an acute primary repair with a synthetic ligament device (LAD), as the technique used in a anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) repair. Outcomes of interest included pivot shift and Lachman tests, Tegner and Lysholm scores, detection of radiological OA, and the rate of revision. The results found significantly favourable rates of revision in the BPTB group compared to both the acute primary repair and acute primary repair with LAD groups. Otherwise, no significant differences were observed between groups.
