Synopsis

80 obese patients with osteoarthritis of the knee were randomized to undergo a low-energy diet or a control diet, in order to assess the effects of rapid diet-induced weight loss on osteoarthritis. The results of the study revealed a 10% reduction in weight results and a 28% increase in knee function, which suggested that weight loss was an effective treatment method for osteoarthritis of the knee...
