Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is considered as the gold standard treatment for knee osteoarthritis (OA) of significant severity in which conservative treatment options such as analgesics, bracing, physiotherapy and intra-articular injections have been exhausted. Despite TKAs role in knee OA management, evidence has challenged the utilization of TKA in younger knee OA patients – particularly those that are less than 50 years old - as this population is expected to outlive the lifespan of the prosthesis. This leads to concerns of a greater risk of revision surgery in these younger patients (Bayliss et al., 2017). The population-based cohort study conducted by Bayliss et al. (2017), involving 54,276 knee OA patients who had undergone TKA, found an increased lifetime risk of revision surgery in younger knee OA patients; up to 35% [95% confidence interval (CI): 30.9% to 39.1%) for men at the age of early 50s, while the risk in knee OA patients over the age of 70 years was only.....
