Since the outbreak of the COVID-19, both academia and industry have been racing to develop and assess vaccine and treatment candidates against COVID-19, with the aim to slow down the pandemic, lower the damage caused by the disease, and eventually have COVID-19 under control. On the one hand, despite problems and challenges, significant progress has been made with the COVID-19 vaccination campaign. Billions of doses of vaccines against COVID-19 have been given worldwide (Our World in Data).
