Synopsis

25 patients with a tibial nonunion following open tibial fracture were randomized to the Iliazarov method with or without the addition of an intraosseous autologous mesenchymal stem cell injection (MSC) within the nonunion gap. The primary outcome was time to union. Result demonstrated a significantly shorter time to union in the MSC group compared to the control group.
